The IntelliCenter can control an automatic pool cover via a relay output and a limit switch input. The relay opens or closes the cover motor, and the limit switch tells the controller when the cover has reached the fully open or fully closed position. A neighbor checking your pool can still adjust settings from the equipment pad without needing your login credentials or internet access.
Can I Control the IntelliCenter with Alexa or Google Home?
The IntelliCenter supports Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice control through the Pentair Home skill available in both app stores. You can issue voice commands to turn the spa on or off, adjust the pool temperature setpoint, switch pool lights between color presets, and activate specific water features if they are configured as named circuits in the IntelliCenter.
Voice control is convenient but limited. You cannot create or modify pump schedules by voice. You cannot adjust salt cell chlorine output percentage. And you cannot configure multi-step macros that sequence multiple devices. For daily quick commands like “Alexa, turn on the spa to 102 degrees,” the integration works reliably once linked through the Pentair Home app.
How Long Does an IntelliCenter Installation Take?
A professional electrician completes a new IntelliCenter installation on a standard residential equipment pad in one full day, approximately 6 to 8 hours. This includes mounting the load center, running conduit from the main panel, installing GFCI breakers, landing high-voltage wires on relay terminals, connecting RS-485 communication cables, mounting valve actuators, and threading temperature sensors into the plumbing.
A retrofit replacing an existing IntelliTouch or EasyTouch takes 4 to 6 hours because the conduit, high-voltage wiring, and device communication cables are already in place. The electrician removes the old panel, mounts the new load center on the same footprint, transfers wires to matching relay terminals, and connects existing RS-485 cables to the new board. What Is the Difference Between IntelliCenter i8PS and i10PS?
The i8PS and i10PS share identical main system boards, Wi-Fi modules, and touchscreen panels. The only difference is the personality board relay count and circuit breaker capacity. Why Does My IntelliCenter Show “Communication Lost” for My Pump?
This error means the IntelliCenter cannot communicate with your IntelliFlo pump over the RS-485 bus. If you are installing an IntelliCenter on a new build, pair it with an IntelliChlor to get the full integrated control.
Does Pentair IntelliCenter Support Apple HomeKit?
Yes. Pentair added Apple HomeKit integration with firmware version 1.064 released in mid-2023. After updating your IntelliCenter firmware, you can add the controller to the Apple Home app by scanning the HomeKit pairing code displayed on the outdoor touchscreen. Once paired, you can control pool temperature, spa mode, lights, and basic pump on/off states through the Home app and with Siri voice commands.
The HomeKit integration is more limited than the native Alexa and Google Home integrations. You cannot view pump speed, salt level, or energy consumption through HomeKit. Apple’s HomeKit accessory protocol does not natively understand pool equipment, so Pentair mapped basic functions to generic HomeKit accessory types: the heater appears as a thermostat, lights as color bulbs, and the spa as a secondary thermostat.
What Size IntelliChlor Do I Need for My IntelliCenter Pool?
