Choosing the right LED color isn’t just about brightness; it fundamentally changes the atmosphere of your backyard. Use the simulator above to test these popular aesthetic choices, then shop the look directly.
⚪ Pure White
Crisp and clean. Pure white provides maximum visibility and gives a pristine, modern look to your pool. Excellent for highlighting pebble finishes and ensuring safety.
🛒 Shop White LEDs🌅 Warm White
Pure elegance. Warm white provides a luxurious, high-end architectural glow. It beautifully highlights tile work, water features, and complex pool geometries.
🛒 Shop Warm LEDs🔥 Orange & Gold
Create a relaxing, tropical sunset vibe. Warm amber and gold tones are perfect for late-night lounging and pair beautifully with fire features or natural stone.
🛒 Shop Orange LEDs💧 Aqua & Deep Blue
The undisputed classic. Blue lights enhance the natural look of the water, making it feel deep, clean, and resort-like. Perfect for standard white or light blue plaster pools.
🛒 Shop Blue LEDs🌴 Emerald Green
Green lighting is ideal for yards with heavy landscaping, palm trees, or natural stone decking. It creates a lagoon or natural hot spring aesthetic that blends into nature.

3-Step “Before You Buy” Checklist
- Check Your Voltage Pool lights are strictly divided into 120V and 12V. Do not guess this. Look at your existing light housing or transformer box. Installing a 12V light into a 120V circuit will instantly destroy the bulb.
-
Measure Your Cord Length
LED replacement lights come with pre-sealed cords (typically 15ft, 30ft, 50ft, or 100ft). Measure the distance from your pool light niche to your junction box and always round up to the next size. You cannot splice a submerged cord.
🛒 Shop Long-Cord LEDs - Check Your Niche Compatibility Most standard in-ground pools use a 10-inch Pentair or Hayward niche. Ensure the replacement LED explicitly states it fits your existing housing size.
Are LED Pool Lights Worth the Upgrade?
If you are currently running older incandescent or halogen pool lights, upgrading to LED is one of the highest-ROI improvements you can make. A traditional 500-watt halogen bulb costs roughly $0.06 per hour to run. A modern 35-watt LED produces the same brightness but costs less than $0.01 per hour.
Over a single summer season, LED pool lights routinely pay for themselves in electricity savings alone, while lasting up to 10x longer.

Pool Light Sizing & Color FAQ
What is the best pool light color for dark plaster?
Darker pool surfaces, like pebble or dark grey plaster, absorb much more light than traditional white or light blue surfaces. Because of this, standard colors can look dim. To see this in action, select the Pebble or Dark surface finish in the visualizer above, and test high-output colors like Pure White, Deep Blue, or Magenta with the brightness slider turned all the way up.
How many LED lights do I need for my pool?
The number of lights depends entirely on your pool’s shape and dimensions to avoid dark spots. You can use the simulator to toggle between 2, 4, 6, and 8 lights. Try switching the pool shape to Rectangle, Oval, or Kidney to see how the light coverage changes and where shadows might naturally fall along the walls.
Can I preview color-changing pool light shows?
Yes. Modern LED pool lights come with built-in light shows. You can preview these effects by changing the Lighting Mode from “Solid” to Color Fade, Party, or Breathe. This allows you to see how the colors transition and blend through the water in real-time.
How much does the time of day affect pool lighting?
Ambient natural light plays a massive role in how your pool looks. An LED light that looks subtle at dusk will be incredibly vibrant at midnight. Use the Time of Day slider to simulate how the ambient lighting transitions from afternoon, to the golden hour, into deep night, and watch how the water reflects the sky.
